Application of Lost Foam Casting

Lost foam casting, is a new type of casting method, it has the advantages of simple operation, easy to learn, low cost and so on. The method is to bond foam models similar in size and shape to the casting into model clusters. After that, these models are brushed with a layer of fire-resistant paint and dried. Then, these models were embedded in molding sand for vibration molding. Under negative pressure, the liquid metal is injected into the model to solidify and cool, and the foam model disappears. A casting conforming to the shape and size of the foam pattern is thus formed.

Lost foam casting is characterized by no parting surface, no sand core, so the surface of the casting is smooth, no flash, burr and draft angle, effectively reducing the size error caused by the core combination. In addition, this casting method also has certain environmental advantages because it is greener than traditional casting methods. In the production process, lost foam casting is usually carried out in a mechanized and automated manner to improve efficiency and keep the working environment clean and tidy. Because the molten ceramic sand (jewel sand) has good environmental protection and regeneration performance, it is widely used in lost foam casting to replace quartz sand. The rise of a large number of the process is in the past 20 years, it is precisely because of the emergence of jewelry sand, but also to speed up the process of a large number of popularity. The lost mold process uses jewel sand as filling sand, because the jewel sand grain-shaped round, good liquidity, high permeability, strong durability, with high thermal conductivity, low dust and other characteristics, the finished product rate of castings significantly increased, the comprehensive cost decreased, the sand consumption per ton of castings is only 1-2kg, the labor environment is significantly improved. Generally use 10/20 mesh, 20/30 mesh. The use of jewel sand as filling sand has become the "standard configuration" of the lost foam industry ".
